Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares (R-Santa Clarita) announced that a bipartisan bill she authored, AB 30, has passed the California Legislature and is now awaiting the Governor’s signature. The legislation would allow the sale of E15, a fuel blend containing 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline, in California.
E15 has been available in other states for over ten years. Supporters say it burns cleaner than traditional fuels and can provide drivers with a more affordable option at gas stations. Currently, California is the only state where E15 sales are not permitted. AB 30 aims to change this by authorizing its sale statewide.
“As we work toward California’s ambitious clean energy goals, we must prioritize affordability,” said Senator Valladares. “California’s sky-high taxes and excessive regulations have created an affordability crisis that’s impacting families across the state. AB 30 is a commonsense, bipartisan solution that helps reduce fuel costs while advancing cleaner energy options.”
Valladares also noted how fuel prices affect daily life for Californians: “The price of gas affects everything from commuting to the cost of groceries,” she said. “I urge the Governor to sign this bill swiftly and bring California in line with the rest of the nation, delivering both environmental benefits and much-needed economic relief to our residents.”
If enacted, AB 30 would make California the last state to permit E15 sales, giving consumers more choice at gas stations.
