Rep. Garcia announces winners of 2024 Congressional Art Competition

Representative Mike Garcia (CA-27) has announced the winners of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 27th District. The winner, Alex Coons, a sophomore at Vasquez High School from Acton, CA, impressed with her drawing titled “Wings of Freedom.” The artwork was chosen by a panel of independent judges and will be sent to Washington, D.C. to be displayed in the halls of Congress.

Rep. Garcia praised Coons’ work as a “touching homage to our service members.” He expressed his honor in displaying it in the U.S. Capitol where it will be seen daily by constituents, Members of Congress, and visitors from around the world. He also acknowledged all young artists who participated in this year’s competition, saying they “truly exemplify the talent and patriotism that make our communities so special.”

In addition to announcing the first-place winner, Rep. Garcia also unveiled the second and third place winners of the annual art competition. Emma Buliga’s “The Original Flight” secured second place while Yancheng Lin’s “Azure Path” claimed third place. These artworks will be proudly displayed in Rep. Garcia’s Washington, D.C. and Santa Clarita offices respectively.

Emma Buliga is an 11th grader at Academy of the Canyons while Yancheng Lin is a 10th grader at Kermes and T Art Academy.
