In Santa Clarita, California, Representative Mike Garcia has addressed his constituents’ concerns regarding a national abortion ban. The congressman from California’s 27th district clarified his stance in a recent statement: “I want to be absolutely clear: I do not and will not support a national abortion ban,” said Rep. Garcia.

Garcia referenced the Dobbs decision of 2022, which allowed states to determine their own abortion laws. He noted that California voters had already expressed their stance by approving Proposition 1, which codifies full access to abortion in the state’s constitution. “As your representative in Congress, I fully respect that the people of California have made their decision on this issue, and that law will stand,” he stated.

Addressing rumors about potential legislative actions by House Republicans, Garcia asserted: “Despite what you may have heard, House Republicans have not, and will not, consider a national abortion ban – and I do not believe that it is the role of Congress to weigh in on this issue.”

He emphasized the importance of personal choice for women concerning family planning decisions. “Deciding if, when, and how to start or grow your family is one of the most important and personal decisions any woman can make,” he said. “I’ll keep fighting to ensure women have access to the care they need, like contraception and IVF, so they can make those decisions on their own terms,” concluded Rep. Garcia.
