Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares (R–Santa Clarita) recently held a Public Safety Day as part of her District Dialogue Listening Tour. The event included a visit to the Federal Correctional Complex Victorville and a virtual roundtable with first responders from across her district.

The initiative is part of Senator Valladares’s ongoing effort to engage directly with residents, community leaders, and public safety professionals to better understand their challenges and how state policy can address them.

“Our law enforcement officers and first responders are the backbone of public safety,” said Senator Valladares. “They protect our neighborhoods, respond in times of crisis, and work tirelessly under pressure. As someone from a law enforcement family, I am a proud and vocal supporter of those who wear the uniform.”

During the tour at Federal Correctional Complex Victorville, Assemblyman Tom Lackey (R–Palmdale) joined Senator Valladares. The visit included time at the inmate education facility and a briefing from prison officials about how current policies affect both staff and inmates.

Later in the day, Senator Valladares convened a virtual roundtable that brought together representatives from local sheriff’s departments, the California Highway Patrol, and fire agencies. The discussion focused on public safety priorities, crime trends, illicit marijuana operations, fires related to lithium battery storage facilities, and concerns about sex trafficking in anticipation of upcoming major events like the Global Games and Olympics.

Senator Valladares also updated participants on legislation she authored this year:
– SB 571 increases penalties for impersonating first responders or looting during declared emergencies.
– SB 221 expands stalking definitions to include threats or harm against pets or service animals.
– AB 310 requires youth sports organizations to ensure coaches are CPR-certified, trained in AED use, and have cardiac emergency response plans.

With the Legislature adjourned until January, Senator Valladares stated she will continue meeting with constituents through her District Dialogues series into the fall.
