On May 11, Representative Mike Garcia (CA-27) issued the following statement after the House voted to pass H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023:
“Border security is national security. As illegal crossings surge to record highs at our southern border amidst the expiration of Title 42, this administration still refuses to act. I’m proud to have voted in support of the Secure the Border Act, critical legislation that will fix the border crisis by increasing the number of border patrol agents, adding infrastructure and technology along our border, reforming the asylum process, and ending dangerous ‘catch and release’ policies. While fentanyl is coming across our open border in record high numbers and wreaking havoc on our communities, the Biden administration needs to stop playing politics with our nation’s security and support this commonsense legislation,” said Garcia.
