Congressman Mike Garcia (CA-27) released a statement following the House's unanimous passage of H. Res. 1367, which establishes the bipartisan Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump.

“This is an important, bipartisan step toward accountability,” said Rep. Garcia. “The security failures at Former President Trump’s rally were egregious, and I was glad to see Secret Service Director Cheatle recognize the inevitable and resign. It’s clear that new leadership is needed to restore the agency’s credibility and competence."

“Now, it’s the duty of Congress to discover what went wrong, why it went wrong, and report those facts to the American people. I look forward to this task force doing so in a bipartisan manner.”

The Task Force will be empowered with all investigative authority of the House of Representatives, including subpoena authority.

The goals of the Task Force are threefold:

1. To understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination.

2. To ensure accountability.

3. To prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again.

The Task Force will make recommendations for reform to relevant government agencies and suggest any necessary legislation to implement these reforms. This bipartisan Task Force will consist of seven Republicans and six Democrats.
